Going on a vacation to Walt Disney World is always filled with excitement and anticipation. However, those planning a stay at Bay Lake Tower should be aware of a significant refurbishment project currently underway. This article provides an overview of what to expect during this period and offers tips on how to navigate your stay comfortably.
The Scope of the Refurbishment
Bay Lake Tower, part of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, is undergoing a comprehensive room refurbishment project that has just begun and is expected to continue until September 2025. This refurbishment is particularly noteworthy as it involves a “hard goods” overhaul, meaning the rooms will be completely gutted and renovated. This marks the first significant renovation since the resort’s opening in 2009. While the resort will remain operational during this period, certain areas will be closed off as construction progresses.
Although specific details about the renovation order are not disclosed, reports suggest that the southern side of Bay Lake Tower will be among the first to undergo updates. Guests can expect substantial changes, as the refurbishment will likely include updates to bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinets, furniture, and more. The aim is to enhance the overall guest experience with refreshed and modernized accommodations.
Operational Adjustments for Guests
During the refurbishment, barriers will be used to minimize disruption, and the resort will remain open. Notably, the south elevators are currently out of service, prompting guests to use the stairwells or the north elevators instead. Additionally, a construction crane is present on the north side of the resort, and sections of the parking lot are being used for construction staging, including the storage of materials in shipping containers.
There may also be intermittent closures of the skybridge connecting Bay Lake Tower to the main Contemporary Resort. Guests with upcoming reservations should look for directional signs or consult with front desk Cast Members for the latest updates.
Given the scope of the refurbishment, guests are advised to allow extra time for travel within the resort, as alternate paths may be in use.
Looking Ahead
The first newly renovated rooms are anticipated to open in late 2024 or early 2025, offering guests a glimpse of the updated interiors. While concept art and renderings have not been shared, the enhancements are expected to revitalize the look and feel of the guest rooms throughout the resort.
Embracing Change for a Better Experience
While the refurbishment at Bay Lake Tower might present some temporary inconveniences, it also promises enhanced accommodations for future visitors. Staying informed and flexible during your stay can help you continue to enjoy the magic of Walt Disney World.
