If you drive into Walt Disney World from the west, your route just changed. Florida’s Moving I-4 Forward program has permanently reworked the eastbound exit toward World Drive, turning one familiar ramp into two. Here is what the update means and how to pick the right ramp on your next trip.
What Changed at Exit 62
For years, drivers heading east on Interstate 4 used a single exit to reach World Drive and State Road 417. That setup is now gone. The former Exit 62 has been split into two separate ramps, labeled Exit 62A and Exit 62B, and the change is permanent.
The two ramps peel off at slightly different points. Exit 62A comes first, followed by Exit 62B a little further down the road. Each one sends you in a different direction, so knowing which is which matters before you reach the split.
The Difference Between 62A and 62B
The key detail comes down to direction. Exit 62A carries traffic to World Drive southbound. Exit 62B carries traffic to World Drive northbound as well as State Road 417 northbound.
For most guests, that distinction is everything. World Drive northbound is the road that leads into the heart of the resort, connecting you to the theme parks and hotels. World Drive southbound serves areas you would only need for other purposes off property.
Which Ramp Walt Disney World Guests Should Take
If Walt Disney World is your destination, you want Exit 62B. This applies to anyone approaching from the Tampa and Lakeland direction on I-4 eastbound. Take 62B, follow World Drive northbound, and the rest of the drive should feel familiar.
Missing the ramp is not the end of your trip. If you accidentally take Exit 62A onto World Drive southbound, you can still find your way back toward the resort. It simply adds time and a few extra turns, so aiming for 62B from the start keeps things simple.
How This Fits With Other Road Work
It helps to know that this ramp split is a state road project handled through the Moving I-4 Forward program. It is separate from the widening work happening closer to the parks.
That other effort, the World Drive North project, is run by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. It has been widening World Drive and Floridian Way between the Magic Kingdom toll plaza and the Grand Floridian and Polynesian area. That project has been pushed back and now carries a completion target of late 2027. Because the two projects are managed by different groups, the exit change does not depend on the widening work finishing.
