How To Do Disney World During Cold Weather

Magic Kingdom

Disney World is located in the city of Orlando, Florida. For most of the year, guests can safely assume it will be quite hot during their Disney vacation. But Florida still does experience seasons, temperatures can drop in the fall, there can be cold days in the winter, and chilly spring mornings. Most guests are prepared to experience the extreme heat, but how do you do Disney during cold weather? My family has vacationed at Disney World during 100 degree heat, and during a 35 degree chill. If you are vacationing during the fall, winter, or spring, then you should be prepared on how to do Disney during cold weather.

Routinely Check the Forecast

The Florida forecast is quite finnicky and can change at the drop of a hat. When you are planning your vacation, check out what the temperatures averaged last year during the time you are thinking of visiting so you have a general sense of what the weather might be like. Beginning a week prior to your vacation, start checking the local weather forecast. Check the forecast one per day so you can start setting aside the appropriate clothing, and keep checking for changes all the way up to the very minute that you leave for your trip. You never know when the weather might change, and you don’t want to be caught unprepared!

Be Prepared For Random Cold Snaps

Even if the weather seems to be warm during your vacation, you should still prepare yourself for some random cold snaps to occur. Keep in mind that 50 degrees at home might feel different than 50 degrees at Disney thanks to the breezy walkways and shaded areas designed to keep you cool during the summer time. Even if you think you won’t be cold you might still consider bringing a jacket.

Dress in Layers That You Can Easily Shed

When visiting the parks during the colder weather it is always a good idea to dress in layers. With all the walking you’ll be doing throughout the parks, you never truly know how warm you might become. In Florida, it tends to be colder in the morning and get hotter throughout the day. When you visit in the winter you could very well be experiencing a 40 degree morning and an 80 degree afternoon. Wearing layers like jackets, sweatshirts, and sweatpants over shorts is a great way to dress for the entire day.

Stop for Hot Meals and Carry Hot Drinks

When visiting during the cold it’s a good idea to schedule a sit-down meal at a restaurant so you can take some time to warm up. Breakfast is a great time of day to spend time indoors because it will be much colder in the mornings than during any other time. Stopping at a Joffrey’s Coffee Stand or Starbucks for a hot drink to warm your hand up is a great idea as well.
